Hi! I am Cathy and I am the founder and owner of Fankery!
How did Fankery start? Did you always enjoy baking?
I started baking during the 2022 lockdown as a way to heal from a health issue. While working full-time as an electrical engineer, baking became a creative outlet for me. Although I had never baked before, I was inspired by my mum, who frequently cooked and baked for our family. What began as a personal project eventually grew into a commercial kitchen operation, and I expanded the Fankery team to six people!
What do you see the future of Fankery looking like? Do you hope to expand or keep it just you?
I aim to build a physical store for Fankery where customers can hang out with their friends and enjoy an in-person Fankery experience! From there, I would like to expand Fankery into the Australian markets.
Do you have a favourite "learning curve" story that helped you grow as a business owner?
When I first started hiring, I was nervous and reluctant to let my team handle tasks. It was difficult to let go of the work I had been doing myself, but over time, I realised that I couldn't grow the business with that mindset. As I entrusted more responsibilities to my team, we achieved much more collectively and built a foundation of trust. Now, I can confidently say that I work with the best team ever and am deeply grateful to them for believing in my vision from the very beginning.
Feeling Almighty Good is a mission of ours, what makes you feel good?
Firstly, I absolutely love the mission! I feel good when I get a really good workout at the gym!
How do you practice balance in your life?
Finding a balance between work and life as a business owner is always challenging, but I make it a priority to set aside time each week for the gym and to catch up with friends and family over coffee or brunch.
How do you find empowerment in your role? Do you have any advice for other women looking to start their own business?
I find empowerment in my role by seeing the positive impact our products have on our customers and witnessing the growth and success of my team. The journey of turning a passion into a thriving business, despite the challenges, has been incredibly fulfilling. Each milestone, no matter how small, reinforces my confidence and commitment.

My advice for other women looking to start their own business is to believe in yourself and your vision. Surround yourself with a supportive network, whether it's family, friends, or mentors, as their encouragement can be invaluable. Don't be afraid to take risks and make mistakes; these are often the best learning opportunities. Stay resilient and adaptable, and remember that your unique perspective and strengths are what will set your business apart. Finally, take care of yourself and find a balance between work and personal life to maintain your passion and drive.

I love all of the flavours but my favourite would have to be the pear one !
